Hello and thanks for visiting my site! I'm continually adding new images so please come back
again and often. If you have questions about any of my images or the site itself, please drop me a line
at darrasin@yahoo.com.
A little about me
I'm currently based in sunny Southern California where I live with my wife Hang in Laguna Beach.
I'm originally from Massachussetts and still have an affinity for all things New England and especially the Patriots. I expect I'll return there some day, but in the meantime I'm enjoying the climate and
abundant natural wonders of California.
In my spare time I enjoy traveling and sight-seeing especially in California, around the United States when I can, and
internationally perhaps once a year. I like being a "tourist" and mainly because of California's large dimensions, I've become a fan of the "long" drive.
Additionally, I like to sweat and while I don't look the part and never aspired to it,
I've become a frequent marathoner. I'm currently training for my 7th marathon. I like to supplement my
running with cycling, mountain biking, hiking, tennis, and backpacking when I can. These outdoor pursuits can offer outstanding photographic opportunites, and my camera often becomes a companion and participant in the action.
Photographic philosophy
I'm not exactly what you'd call a photography fanatic. I consider the equipment to be a necessary evil and you may be surprised to see how little equipment I own. I am definitely a less is more type of guy in terms of equipment. And perhaps the same can be said for techique since I try to let my instincts and emotions guide me
in the field.
What I do get excited about is just getting out there in excellent light and trying to find interesting, creative image possibilities in the great outdoors no matter whether its close to home or hundreds of miles away. The hunt for image opportunities itself truly is
invigorating and often produces a highly focussed, senses-heightened state for me.
When I'm in the field I like to experiment with light, form and color. As you may have guessed I am a big fan of huge, warm color. Sometimes I like to try to nail technically sound pictures with good
composition and exposure. Other times I try to find interesting abstractions in ordinary everyday scenes. And when it feels appropriate, I try to give my images an emotional element.
Again, thanks for visiting my site! I hope my images stoke an interest in you to visually explore the beauty that surrounds you.
